Dead Animal Removal Introduction

Sgt. Poopers Disinfection and Deodorizing buttonIt's sad, but if you have a small dead animal on your property, whether bird, squirrel, snake, opossum, raccoon, rabbit, armadillo, rat, mouse, frog, or another, Sgt. Poopers can help with our dead animal removal service. We actually find and remove remains all the time  since a decomposing body is a source of disease and can make your dog, cat or child ill.

We will remove the carcass and place it into a heavy-duty leak-proof bag to contain odors and germs. Then we will disinfect and deodorize the area where the animal was found to prevent any risk of infection to other animals. We will also spray our cedar oil to kill any disease bearing insects like fleas or ticks Fly headthat might have come from the dead animal so they don't get onto your pets or into your house.

It's important to act quickly before a new generation of flies breed on the carcass. Once hatched, flies stay right in the same area they were born, and spread germs on everything they touch. Flies are "filth insects" designed to survive by spreading disease to healthy animals nearby like you.

Disinfecting the Area

epa logo horizontalWe use a cutting-age, food-grade, EPA-approved and NSF-certified hospital disinfectant to break the chain of infection at the molecular level. The chemistry is non-toxic to humans, pets, and beneficial insects. It reacts with sulfur atoms in the amino-acid proteins that form the membrane of bacteria and viruses. This reaction causes 99.999% of harmful microbes to rupture and die in less than a minute.

nsf markWhen Ebola struck Dallas in 2014, this is what hazmat workers used to successfully disinfect the contaminated spaces. It is an EPA-registered antimicrobial that meets CDC criteria for use against Ebola, yet this same disinfectant is so safe you can wash your hands with it (which we do frequently). It is non-toxic, non-flammable, non-hazardous, and causes no cdc logorespiratory nor skin irritation in animals or humans. It is certified as no rinse required. Respirators or rubber gloves are not required for application. Our disinfectant is simply one of the best, safest and most effective disinfectants there is. And we're pretty proud of it.

Deodorizing the Area

Sgt. Poopers Conservation ArrowheadThere is no odor worse than a rotting animal. Our antimicrobial deodorizer destroys the cause of malodor by oxidizing the microscopic organisms that cause it. That's right — foul odors are caused by bacteria. By destroying bacteria, like magic there is nothing left to create odor.

People perceive certain odors as offensive since the human body recognizes them as a warning against potential disease. The smell of a rotting animal registers as "offensive" to us because it marks a serious health risk. After thousands of years of evolution, your body knows.

epa sealOur EPA-registered non-toxic odor eliminator neutralizes the source of odors on a molecular level. Other odor products can cause allergic or asthmatic reactions. Ours contains no scents, perfumes, nor fragrances and is fit for the most sensitive allergy suffers. It’s also hypoallergenic, non-hazardous, non-irritating, and contains no volatile compounds (VOCs) to pollute the beautiful atmosphere over the city of Dallas.

What we do with wildlife carcasses

It is securely double bagged in heavy-duty plastic and sealed. The carcass goes into the trash and from there per city ordinances into the Dallas landfill which is designed to contain such biological waste. If you want us to haul away the carcass, we can do that too for an additional disposal fee.

Wildlife Morgue

These photos aren't included from a sense of morbidity, but just to show that just as surely as wild animals live in your yard, they also die there.  It's the cycle of nature and the natural order. Still, death of creatures is somewhat sad so don't scroll down if you'll be bothered. We have not included pets or gory photos however. Only wildlife.

It's always possible a dead animal died of a virulent disease, like rabies, so it's best to keep your distance. In the case of birds, there is a danger of Avian influenza also called avian flu or bird flu which is caused by viruses. The most deadly is the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). HPAI can be transmitted to humans and is considered a "super bug." H5N1 is only spread by dead birds. It is not highly contagious, but it is deadly and can kill six out of ten people infected.
